January Session Underway This Week

Following a successful first full program year, we are excited to welcome over 180 students to our January session that kicks off this week.

New for this session, we are hosting all of our courses in conjunction with our sister program Code Louisville, with the goal of offering more class flexibility and resources for students across both programs. We are continuing with the pathways model that allows students to select from one of three subjects for a deep-dive of two, 12-week courses in a chosen area: Web Development with JavaScript, Data Analysis with Python, or Software Development with C#. Prospective students interested in learning more about the pathways can check out our Pre-work Wiki for more info, and a fun quiz to help determine which pathway might be the right fit for them.

Throughout the next 12 weeks, students must complete the required curriculum for their pathway, attend a weekly meetup with fellow students and mentors, submit a project showcasing the skills they’ve learned, and complete some job readiness requirements to prepare them for launching an exciting new career in tech.

The success of our program relies heavily on the participation of volunteer mentors, who are seasoned software developers looking to give back by helping students troubleshoot and better understand learning concepts. More than 40 volunteer mentors will be working with our students across the 12 classes we have this session.

As a staff, we keep a close eye on industry and labor market trends to ensure we are training the new wave of tech talent with valuable skills to bolster the tech workforce in Kentucky. We’ve already had 19 students land exciting new jobs in tech and/or receive a raise or promotion at their current role because of the skills they’ve learned through our program, and we’re looking forward to helping many more in the months and years to come!
